Kim Jaejoong Opens Up About Marriage Pressure From Family and Dating Struggles

In a refreshingly honest appearance on the YouTube channel Life84, singer and actor Kim Jaejoong revealed that, at 39, he still has no plans to get married, despite pressure from his family and the assumptions of fans.

The video, titled “Kim Jaejoong’s Recent Status,” aired on June 10 and featured a conversation between Jaejoong and Kian84. The popular artist acknowledged being labeled a top filial son in Korea, thanks in part to his family background. “I have eight older sisters,” he shared, “so my parents are constantly pressuring me to get married. There’s no real way to relieve that stress.”

Yet Jaejoong explained that he doesn’t see marriage as a goal to chase forcefully. “I prefer things to happen naturally. But putting continuous effort into getting married feels like a mismatched use of energy for me. Whether it’s this year, next year, or the year after, nothing changes.”
When Kian84 asked him outright whether he had any marriage plans, Jaejoong laughed and replied, “Nope. Besides, this probably isn’t a channel my parents watch, so I can speak freely.”

The interview also shed light on the harsh realities of his celebrity schedule. “People say ‘you can always find time to date,’ but this month, I only have one day off. I have to wear makeup every single day.”
Though some of his female celebrity friends believe he could easily get married if he wanted to, Jaejoong revealed the real challenge lies in maintaining a relationship. “Even if someone says, ‘Let’s meet tomorrow,’ I often have to say, ‘Sorry, I have schedules.'” He added, “If I start a relationship by saying I won’t be able to see her often because of work, there’s no relationship to begin with.”
Despite the pressures and constraints, Kim Jaejoong’s candid words resonated with many viewers, offering a glimpse into the personal sacrifices behind the glamor of stardom. As one of Korea’s enduring icons, his honesty about love and life only deepens his connection with fans.
